From September 2009 to October 2010, Saturn (limitation, frustration, delay, responsibility) squares Pluto (irresistible transformation, overwhelming force). Remember the old line about an irresistible force meeting an immovable object? This combination is about as close as it comes to such a confrontation in the real world. Conflict of wills, and conflict of our human will with the nature of reality, take center stage. Don't block the road - that bulldozer won't slow down just because you're in the way. This aspect is happening in the earliest degrees of Cardinal signs, which some astrologers call "the World Axis" - and that means some of the huge changes coming up will be highly visible and will affect millions or even billions of people.

Mars has been retrograde since December 20, and it will remain so until March 10. It may not be as easy as usual to get things done during this period, and we may not be terribly clear about our desires and goals.

Saturn has been retrograde since January 13 and will remain so until the end of May. This is more significant for people and entities born at this time than it is for the rest of us.

Until March 3, Mercury (communication) conjoins Neptune (illusion, confusion, deception). Thinking clearly becomes difficult now, an uphill struggle. On the other hand, the literary arts can work well with this combination -- prose, poetry, song lyrics, drama, film. It's best to devote yourself to artistic creativity and appreciation now. Don't let anyone pressure you into signing a contract under this influence.

Until March 9, Venus (love, beauty) conjoins Uranus (the urge for freedom, the thrill of the new). Short-lived attractions can appear out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly. Don't block the view - and hope that others in your life won't block your view. The time for commitment may come eventually, but probably not now.

Until March 9, the Sun (vitality, self-confidence) conjoins Jupiter (optimism, success). These two bodies have a lot in common, and work very well together. Enthusiasm runs high, and many people will find themselves experiencing the rewards of good past karma at this time.

On March 1 and 2, Mercury (communication) quincunxes Mars (assertiveness). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 0-1 Leo and Pisces. In this case, Mars in Leo is the problem and Mercury in Pisces is the solution. Avoid impulsiveness - a day or two of delay won't hurt anything.

On March 2 and 3, Mercury (communication) quincunxes Saturn (limitation, frustration, delay, but also self-discipline). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 2-3 Libra and Pisces. In this aspect, Mercury in spacy Pisces is the problem and Saturn in Libra is the solution. Realism is crucial.

From March 2 until September, Saturn ("the way it's supposed to be done") opposes Uranus (doing it your own way). This long-lasting aspect really pulls us in two different directions at once. Every day requires new and careful judgments about the wisdom of doing what is expected of us versus the wisdom of striking out in new directions. It's disorienting. "Things fall apart; the center cannot hold." (Yeats, "The Second Coming")

From March 3 to 12, Mercury (the detail-oriented mind) conjoins Jupiter (seeing the Big Picture), in Pisces, which is Jupiter's own sign and the place where Mercury is least able to cope. It's best to focus on seeing the forest rather than the individual trees now. The perspective you gain will help you in the long run.

From March 3 to 14, Venus (love, beauty, art) opposes Saturn (frustration, limitation, delay, but also commitment). If you're already in a committed relationship, this influence could strengthen it - but if your relationship is on shaky ground, this period could be very difficult.

From March 4 to 6, the Sun (vitality, self-confidence) sesquiquadrates Mars (impulsiveness, self-assertion, anger). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 0-1 Fixed and 15-16 Mutable. If you can exert mental discipline, you can avoid going over the edge into anger and quarreling.

From March 5 to 17, Venus (love, beauty) squares Pluto (irresistible transformation, overwhelming force). The myth of Persephone and Hades yet again - try not to be seduced by someone who will not be good for you in the long run.

From March 6 to 21, Mercury (business, busyness) conjoins the Sun (vitality, self-confidence). Direct Mercury is moving at its fastest speed now, and Mercury functions at its best when direct and fast. Other things being equal, this is a great time to get things done.

On March 9 and 10, Mercury (words) sesquiquadrates Mars (irritability). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 0-1 Fixed and 16-17 Mutable. Mars goes direct on the 10th; because it is changing direction, it moves very slowly during this whole period, which gives it more staying power than usual if it is transiting your chart. Be grateful that fast-moving Mercury doesn't stick around long for this one. Resist any impulses toward harsh speech; there should be less to resist in another day or two.

From March 9 to 24, the Sun (vitality, self-confidence) conjoins Uranus (surprises, upsets, the new). For many of us, it seems as though someone has pulled aside a curtain, allowing us to see things we've never noticed before. We may even lie awake at night with new ideas racing through our minds faster than we can verbalize them all. The results will be exciting.

From March 11 to 19, Mercury (the ordinary mind) conjoins Uranus (the innovative mind). Double up on the description in the previous paragraph.

From March 14 to 21, Mercury (business, busyness) opposes Saturn (the reality principle). The old disciplinarian of the zodiac steps in to keep things from getting too far out of hand. With all that excitement, we don't want to lose touch with reality.

From March 15 to 28, Sun (vitality, self-confidence) opposes Saturn (limitation, frustration, delay, but also self-discipline). Now we get to digest all those Uranian mental changes and put them into perspective. Can we integrate our new insights into our life without shattering everything? If any influence will help us do that, it is Saturn's.

On March 16 and 17, Venus (love, beauty, art) semisquares Neptune (illusion, confusion, self-deception). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 11-13 Cardinal and 26-28 Fixed. Focus on artistic creativity now, or at least on the appreciation of the arts. Avoid falling in love at this time, since your view of the other person will be totally delusional if you do.

From March 16 to 23, Mercury (business, busyness) squares Pluto (irresistible transformation, overwhelming force). Little Mercury is totally out of his league here. He tries to deal in words and symbols, whereas Pluto deals in powerful emotional archetypes in the unconscious. A rather mundane expression of this aspect might put you in a position where you have to declare your position on something important, perhaps even by signing some document. Even more important life-changing events can ensue if this transit hits something important in your natal chart.

From March 18 to April 1, the Sun (vitality, self-confidence) squares Pluto (irresistible transformation, overwhelming force). Double up on the interpretation in the preceding paragraph.

From March 22 to April 12, Mars (impulsiveness) sesquiquadrates Jupiter (expansion, success, wealth). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 0-5 Fixed and 15-20 Mutable. Mars and Jupiter move slowly in tandem during this period, so they will trigger different people's charts on different days. Avoid spending money foolishly. Pay off all your outstanding bills before allowing yourself to buy anything on impulse, or you may wind up holding the bag.

On March 23 and 24, Mercury (communication) semisquares Neptune (illusion, delusion, self-deception). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 11-13 Fixed and 26-28 Mutable. Don't sign anything now. Don't be taken in by con artists whether in business, politics, or religion. Your judgment will be better later on.

From March 26 to April 11, Venus (love, beauty) squares Mars (energy, passion). This is about as sexy as it gets, but there's nobody exercising judgment here. If you're in a relationship, express this energy with your partner, and avoid the impulse to wander. If you're looking for a relationship, keep your pants on till you're quite sure of what you're getting into.

From March 29 all the way to May 31(!), Mercury (communication) squares Mars (rashness, anger). Mars is still moving rather slowly as Mercury slows down, goes retrograde in mid-April, and then goes direct in mid-May. The result is this long-lasting square, in which the two bodies remain within 7-degree orb for two full months. People who do not have a spiritual practice, or any kind of real self-discipline, will be going off the deep end right and left. The news will be full of even more hate speech than usual. Do not be part of this.

From March 30 to April 1, Venus (love, beauty, art) quincunxes Saturn (frustration, limitation, delay, but also self-discipline). This aspect will affect people who have important natal points at 29 Aries-0 Taurus and 29 Virgo-0 Libra. Saturn is the problem and Venus is the solution - but the real solution is to wait a couple of days till it's over.

7. MEDITATION ON LOVINGKINDNESS, COMPASSION,
SYMPATHETIC JOY, AND EQUANIMITY

The following meditation is known as "The Divine Abodes" or "The Four Immeasurables". Reciting these words to ourselves is always appropriate, no matter what the circumstances. Start by saying "May I have happiness", etc., through all four lines; then repeat, inserting the name of someone you like; then again with the name of someone who's neutral to you; and
finally with the name of someone whom you don't like. (It may take a while before you are comfortable doing this for the ones you don't like - but it's very important in the long run.) This practice is beneficial for us and for everyone with whom we come in contact.

May all living beings have happiness and the causes of happiness.
May we all be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.
May we always rejoice in the happiness of others.
May we abide in equanimity, free from attachment and aversion.

And a wonderful affirmation from Raymon Grace:

"May I always be in the right place at the right time to do as much good as possible."
